This is the kind of record that can speak to the streets without losing its radio appeal.
And that's important.
Not every record needs to sound like it was created specifically for mainstream radio. Sometimes, you want music that feels authentic, has its own identity, and connects with people who appreciate the culture. To me, “WHAT IS LIFE” has that kind of energy.
Now, let's talk about the genre, because this is where things get interesting.
Afrobeats is making moves, and people are paying attention!
I'm not just saying that because it's the sound everybody is talking about. I've seen the interest firsthand through my own work. I put together a mixtape called NARC 2: BLACK OPS UK, and people from different places were downloading it. That experience showed me there was an audience for this kind of sound, and it's a lane I want to continue exploring.
That's why a record like this catches my attention.
I'm always interested in discovering music that brings something to the table, especially when it comes to sounds that can connect with different audiences. One Sagent has something here that I would like to explore further.
And I'm going to say something else: I'd love to get One Sagent's music on my next mixtape!
That's not something I'm saying just to be nice. I genuinely like the vibe of this record, and I can see his sound fitting into the kind of musical direction I'd like to explore again. When a record catches my ear, I want to know wh you, and mat else the artist has in the vault.
Would I play “WHAT IS LIFE” on the radio? YES!
I can hear this getting spins on SugarWaterRadio. I like the energy, I like the vocal tune, and I think the track has the kind of vibe that can appeal to listeners who appreciate Afrobeats and music with a street feel.
Now, does that mean the record is perfect? No. That's why we're here at THE MIC.
For me, the biggest question is how far this record can go with the right presentation, promotion, and continued development. I'd want to hear more from One Sagent and see how he builds on this sound. There's an opportunity here to develop a recognizable musical identity and connect with an audience that appreciates this lane.
But I don't want to overcomplicate the review. Sometimes you just have to give a record credit for what it does well.
I LIKE THE VIBE. I LIKE THE TRACK. AND I LIKE WHAT ONE SAGENT IS BRINGING TO THE TABLE.
My advice to One Sagent? Keep building on this sound. Continue developing your own identity, keep making records that feel authentic toake sure your music gets in front of the right audience. I'd also love to hear more of your catalog because this track has me interested in what else you can do.
At THE MIC, we're not here to hand out perfect scores just because we like a song. We're here to listen, give our honest opinions, and recognize music that deserves attention.
And with “WHAT IS LIFE,” I hear something worth giving a chance.
One Sagent, keep working. I'd like to hear more, and I'd definitely be interested in discussing your music for a future mixtape.
That's my honest take!
