And that's what I like about it.
The flow works for me, and the track itself is tough. There's a throwback feel to the music that gives this record character. It has that relaxed confidence that makes you want to sit back, enjoy the groove, and let the music ride. Sometimes, a record doesn't have to be overly complicated to catch your attention. Sometimes, the vibe does the talking.
And with this one, I hear something I can appreciate.
Would I play this on the radio? YES!
Is this ready for radio play? In my opinion, YES!
I'd be comfortable giving this record a spin on SugarWaterRadio because I like the overall feel of the song. It has a sound that stands apart from some of the music we're hearing today, and I can appreciate an artist who brings a little classic flavor into the mix.
But you know how we do things here at THE MIC. We're going to give you the good, but we're also going to tell you where there's room for improvement.
My biggest issue with this record is the mastering and vocal mix.
I would like to hear a little more attention given to the final sound of this track. The vocal needs a good ear on it, and I would like to hear it mixed down a little more so it sits comfortably within the music. Right now, I think there's an opportunity to create a better balance between the vocal and the instrumental.
And let me be clear: I'm not saying the vocals are bad. That's not my issue with this record. I'm talking about getting the mix right so everything works together the way it should.
A good mix can make a difference in how a listener experiences a song. The vocals should complement the instrumental, the music should have room to breathe, and the entire record should sound polished from beginning to end.
Torrie, I wouldn't change the vibe of this record. I'd work on the finish.
You've got a sound here that I like. I like the flow, I like the classic feel, and I like the direction of the track. I wouldn't want you to lose that character by trying to do too much. I'd rather hear you take what you've already created and get the right mixing and mastering work done to bring it to the next level.
Sometimes, the difference between a good record and a more polished, radio-ready record comes down to those final details.
And I believe that's where this song could benefit.
My advice? Keep the vibe, keep the confidence, and get another set of experienced ears on that final mix. Make sure the vocals and instrumental sit together properly, then give the record another listen from the perspective of the audience.
Because the foundation is there, and I want to hear it presented at its best.
THE MIC VERDICT: I like “I'M THAT GIRL (REMIX).” It's cool, it's soulful, it's got that classic throwback energy, and I would give it radio play on SugarWaterRadio. My main recommendation is to revisit the vocal mix and mastering to give the record a cleaner, more balanced finish.
Torrie Knighten, keep doing your thing. Don't lose what makes your sound yours. Just keep sharpening the details.
That's what THE MIC is about: recognizing good music, giving artists honest feedback, and helping independent talent continue to grow.

DJ Franchise's verdict: “I like the vibe! The track is tough, the flow works, and that classic throwback sound gives this record character. I'd play it on SugarWaterRadio. My only real criticism is the vocal mix and mastering. Get those details right, and you'll have a stronger, more polished record. Keep that vibe!”
